I have to admit some of these made me laugh; partly out of how true these "obsessions" are, and partly about what it shows we Americans valued this year. Not to diminish any of these obsessions, but it is honestly kind of sad that the last year is defined by watching guidos and their obsession with "t-shirt time" and "GTL" and following the lost cause of Lindsay Lohan.This article was very entertaining to me. It's not necessarily that I disagree with what the writers chose to include on this list, but more that I wonder what this list says about our society and our generation...
What really stood out to me about this article, is that two out of the ten "obsessions" I HAVENT EVEN HEARD ABOUT! Stieg Larsson's "The Girl" and Bedbugs? I can't decide whether thats embarrassing for me or if that list is seriously lacking...
ReplyDeleteGreat post Brooks! Really got me thinking. I wanted to dig deeper into each of the ten (well eight of the ten...) and see what they REALLY might stand for.
1. Moving forward with technology
2. Importance of getting help for drug addictions (hah)
3. Same as 1
4. Difference is ok!
5. Friendship
6. Interest in others lives
7. ?
8. Political variety
9. Fun, corky, bonding experiences for kids
10. ?
Some of these are a little debatable, but I prefer this top ten list than the "Jersey Shore" one!!!!!!
